The La Raza Lawyers Association offers various fellowships and scholarships to students in the Bay Area who are committed to issues specific to the Latino community and interested in summer employment.

1) The Public Interest Law Fellowship:

Our SFLRLA Public Interest Law Fellowship is designed to provide financial assistance to law students with significant financial need, who are working with Bay Area community-based legal service providers to enhance the delivery of legal services to the Latino community.  Fellowships will be awarded in areas where there is a substantial Latino population in need of legal services. 4-6 fellowships will be awarded to law students to fund summer employment in 2014, with an amount up to $5,000. First application deadline is in February, second in April. 

 

2) The LGBT Summer Fellowship:

The SFLRLA & BALIF LGBT Public Interest Law Fellowship is designed to provide financial assistance to law students working with Bay Area community-based legal service providers to enhance the delivery of legal services to the Latino Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community.  Fellowships will be awarded in areas where there is a substantial LGBT population in need of legal services.  The Bay Area Latino Lawyers Fund and Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom will jointly award one fellowship, named the SFLRLA & BALIF LGBT Public Interest Law Fellowship, to a law student to fund summer employment in 2014.  The amount of the fellowship will depend on the individual's financial need and grant funding available, up to $5,000. There were will be rounds of application deadlines- February and April. 

 

3) The Public Interst Bar Review Scholarship:

The SFLRLA Public Interest Bar Review Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to law graduates who intend to pursue a career working with Bay Area community-based legal service providers to enhance the delivery of legal services to the Latino community.  The Bay Area Latino Lawyers Fund awards this scholarship annually to graduates intending to work in areas where there is a substantial Latino population in need of legal services.

One scholarship will be awarded to finance a bar review course for a current third-year law student who has committed to working for a Bay Area organization serving the Latino community consistent with the scholarship 

criteria described above after the completion of the bar exam. Applications are due May 15th. 

 

4) The Allen E. Broussard Scholarship Foundation awards $5,000 scholarships based on need to minority law students from the Bay Area and/or attending local law schools. The awards are made at the Law Day Luncheon, held each May. Applications are available at the Broussard Foundation website
