Specifics

There are various scholarships that the AMS Foundation offers to undergraduate students. The first is the AMS/Industry Minority Scholarships, which awards funding to minority students who have been traditionally underrepresented in the sciences, especially Hispanic, Native American, and Black/African American students. Funding for the scholarships is provided by industry and through donations made by members to the AMS 21st Century Campaign. A second scholarship is the AMS Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship program, open to all high school students and designed to encourage study in the atmospheric and related sciences. Serving as a unique example of various sectors of our field joining together to support young, talented minds, the scholarships are being sponsored by partners in industry, as well as through named scholarships either established by an AMS member or in memory of someone. The sponsors of these scholarships have all recognized the importance in encouraging young people to enter into the atmospheric and related sciences and thus have made generous contributions in support of the 2014 AMS Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship Program. Third, the AMS Named Scholarship: Applicants must be entering their final year of undergraduate study in the fall of 2014 and provide evidence of acceptance as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. institution at the time of the award.
