Specifics: Key features of the Knight Ridder National Minority Scholarship:
Scholarships will be awared to up to five minority high school seniors, graduating each Spring.
The scholarships will total $40,000 each, spread over four years
Each scholar also receives four 12 week internships- Scholarship recipients must agree to be available for the internships and work for Knight Ridder for at least one year upon completion of their undergraduate work.
To remain in good standing during the program, scholars must maintain a GPA of 3.0
Scholars receive $5,000 cash for their freshman and sophomore years and $15,000 a year for their final two years. all amounts payable in two installments a year and go directly to the student.
At the end of the scholar\\\'s sophomore year a reassessment occurs to determine whether the scholar should continue in the program.
If you live in Michigan; Mississippi; Monterey, Calif.; St. Paul, Minn.; or in the San Francisco Bay Area, you can download an application from the website.
You must be a graduating high school senior to apply. Application deadlines are typically between mid-December and early January of your senior year. Check with your local paper for details. The property normally informs you by mid-March if you have won.
